How to use smoked butter: 7 easy ideas

Smoked butter allows you to add a hint of smoke to very simple dishes. The household size from Rooftop Smokehouse contains pasteurized cream and salt, weighs 200 g, and must be stored between 2 ºC and 6 ºC.

Seven uses for smoked butter

  1. On bread: let it soften just enough to spread.
  2. On roasted vegetables: add a small amount once finished.
  3. In pasta: use it to bind the sauce or as a finishing touch.
  4. On meat: place a dollop on top when serving so it melts with the heat.
  5. In steak tartare: incorporate it according to the recipe and the balance you are looking for.
  6. With mushrooms: use it as a cooking fat or to finish a sauté.
  7. On a board: serve it with bread, smoked cheddar, and pickles.

Household or professional size

The 200 g jar is designed for home use. If you need it more frequently, compare the 1 kg size and check its availability.

Two of our own recipes to see it in the kitchen

In Mushrooms and smoked butter, you can see a Rooftop preparation in a video. For another use, check out Mashed potatoes, smoked butter, and beer mustard. These are different preparations: one uses mushrooms as a base and the other combines a potato side dish with a condiment.

Choose one of these preparations before opening the jar. This way, you can decide what additional ingredients you need and avoid buying a large size just because there are many possible uses.

Choosing the right moment to add it

If you use it on bread or to finish vegetables, the goal is to distribute a smoked ingredient over a dish that is already prepared. If you incorporate it during a sauté, it also acts as a cooking fat. These uses are not interchangeable: follow the chosen preparation and test the balance before adding more salt or other intense ingredients.

Common mistakes when choosing a size

  • The 1 kg butter contains five times the amount of the 200 g jar; the amount needed for each dish does not change because of that.
  • A list of seven ideas is not the same as seven measured recipes. To see the execution, open the linked preparations.
  • The butter contains dairy: it is not a dairy-free substitute, nor a way to avoid checking for traces in the complete dish.
