Smoked chicharrón: three ideas for serving it

Rooftop smoked chicharrón is inspired by the Cádiz style and comes in a 120 g pack. Its product page recommends serving it with lemon juice and black pepper. Start with that suggestion to decide whether to serve it as an appetizer or add it to a dish you already prepare.

The three options on this page are serving ideas, not tested recipes with measured portions and cooking times. The pack weight does not establish how many tacos, plates or people it will serve.

1. An appetizer with lemon and pepper

This is the suggestion on Rooftop's own product page: chicharrón with lemon juice and black pepper. Serve the lemon separately so each person can adjust the seasoning, and present the product on its own plate. Follow the label for preparation; this is not a recipe for making chicharrón from raw pork belly.

When to choose it: when you want an appetizer focused on the product, rather than a more elaborate dish. You do not need butter or a sauce to follow this serving suggestion.

2. With potatoes and a separate condiment

If you already cook boiled or roasted potatoes, consider serving chicharrón alongside them, with beer mustard on the side. This is a suggested combination, not a potato recipe tested by Rooftop. Use the quantities and cooking method from your chosen potato recipe.

What to check: mustard is a separate condiment. Its product page declares GLUTEN, MUSTARD and SULPHITES, as well as possible traces. Checking one product's ingredients does not establish that the whole dish meets a dietary requirement.

3. As a taco component with kimchi

Another possibility is to add it to tacos and offer kimchi separately, so each person can adjust the amount and heat of each bite. Keep the tortilla, chicharrón and accompaniment as separate components until assembly.

What to check: read the ingredients for the kimchi and tortillas, as well as the chicharrón label. Fermented vegetables are not automatically vegetarian or necessarily free from fish. This idea is not a tested recipe for a specific number of tacos.

Before choosing: ingredients and storage of the 120 g pack

The product page declares pork belly (94%), salt, sugar, cloves, juniper, bay leaf, black pepper, lemon peel and thyme. It may contain traces of MUSTARD, MILK, FISH and SULPHITES.

The stated storage conditions are between 0 and 4 °C, with consumption within five days of opening. Follow the date and instructions on the pack you receive. This period does not permit leaving a prepared dish unrefrigerated or extending the shelf life of tortillas, potatoes or accompaniments.

Choose according to what you already plan to cook

  • For an appetizer, start with lemon and pepper.
  • If potatoes are already on the menu, consider chicharrón as an accompaniment and mustard as an optional condiment.
  • If you are making tacos, check every component and serve the kimchi separately so each person can adjust their bite.
